Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (CSSS)

The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students (CSSS) is a centrally-funded merit-cum-means scholarship initiated by the Department of Higher Education of MHRD. The scholarship is aimed at providing financial assistance to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of society so that they can pursue higher education. The scholarship is disbursed to 82,000 graduate/postgraduate students every year. The scholarship is generally announced every year in the month of July, and its deadline falls in the last week of October. However, the application period varies from year to year and is subject to change at the discretion of the scholarship provider.

The online application for the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students for the year 2023-24, 1st Renewal for the year 2022, 2nd renewal for the year 2021, 3rd Renewal for the year 2020, and 4th Renewal for the year 2019 is available on the National Scholarship Portal. Students may visit the National Scholarship Portal to apply for fresh and renewal of scholarship. The last date for submission of the online application form for renewal and fresh scholarship 2023-24 is 31.12.2023.

All the candidates are advised to apply online within the stipulated time and get their online applications verified by the institutions (if required show the original documents to the institute) else the application would be treated as INVALID. All the Nodal officers of the institute are requested for timely verification (verify/defect/reject) of the online applications at their institute login.

Central Sector Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidates must be pursuing graduation and post-graduation in the same stream.
  • The students must have secured at least 50% or more marks in the previous exam.
  • They must maintain an attendance of at least 75%.
  • The candidates must not be involved in any ragging activities.

Central Sector Scholarship – Renewal Policy:
The beneficiaries of this merit-cum-means scholarship are eligible to receive the scholarship for a maximum period of 5 years, which includes both graduation and post-graduation period. The candidates must fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria in order to get the scholarship renewed.
